Hey Guys! this is a short post of how i stretch my canvas using just a tape and a board.
I buy canvas roll and cut it to whatever size i require for the painting. It is much economical than buying premade canvas boards or stretched canvas frames
Next, I lay down the piece on a wooden drawing board, with centres marked on all 4 sides of the canvas.
I tape down one side and on the other side, I pull the tape so there is sufficient stretch and stick it firmly on the board.
Do the same thing for other sides.
The basic idea is to tape one side and use the stickiness of the tape to pull the canvas and secure the stretch before taping it down on the other end.
Same approach for the corners, pull the sides with the tape, nice and firm.
In the end there would be no bumps or wrinkles on the surface.
At this point I cover the edges with tape as well, it will secure the canvas and also provide a crisp edge when the painting is done.
And you have to agree, peeling off the tape is one of the most satisfying part at the completion of the painting.
The extra bits can be removed using an exacto knife.
And there you have it! a perfectly stretched canvas without using any special hardware, just a tape and a board.
